Zhong Ding Association

This association was established in 1987 by its Chief Instructor, Nigel Sutton, at the request of his teacher Master Tan Ching Ngee of Singapore, who became a disciple of Grand Master Cheng Man-Ch`ing.

The purpose of the association is to promote and research Tai Chi Chuan and other Chinese martial arts. In order to do so the association runs classes and regular seminars throughout the year at a wide range of locations, as well as special seminars conducted by visiting instructors who are renowned experts in their field.

As well as promoting through teaching, the association encourages its members to write for periodicals and related publications. Nigel himself has had articles published in a number of magazines and is the author of several books on Tai Chi Chuan. The founder now lives and continues to study in the Far East

Nigel sutton

Nigel Sutton has practised martial arts for more than thirty years. During that time he has trained in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines. Although he specialises in the practise of Zhengzi (Cheng Man-Ch`ing) taijiquan and Malay silat he has also trained in and gained instructor qualifications in Shaolin Hongquan (Hung Gar) and Wuzuquan (Ngor Chor Kune), Baguazhang and Xingyiquan (Beijing Gao Style). Most recently he has also qualified as a trainer of De Campo JDC-IO Eskrima.

For the past fifteen years Nigel has lived and trained in Malaysia.

A prolific writer Nigel has written seven books on Taijiquan and the Chinese arts and co-authored a book on silat. Nigel writes for martial arts publications worldwide and has a regular column in Malaysia's premier martial arts magazine, Seni Beladiri (The Art of Self-Defence).

As Chief Instructor of the Zhong Ding Traditional Martial Arts Association, Nigel holds courses both in Europe and in Malaysia.

Nigels' research in the field of Malay silat has led him to acquire instructor status in Silat Melayu Lok Sembilan, Lian Padukan, Silat Embo and Silat Tua. in addition Nigel is a qualified instructor of a family style of Krabi Krabong (Thai weapons-based art).
